Tips for Contacting Alumni

Consider the following tips when contacting and meeting with Alumni:

1

Call or email the alumnus of interest to ask if and when they are willing and available to speak with you. Identify yourself as a NCSSS student or alumni, and mention that you got their names from the Alumni Career Network

2

Ask whether they prefer to meet you in person at their office or speak with you over the phone

3

Schedule about 30 to 45 minutes for the interview, depending on the availability of the interviewee

4

If you have a resume prepared, you may wish to email it prior to the meeting. Again, while this in NOT a situation where you are asking for a job, some alumni may want to have a copy of your resume on file for future reference.  They may also be able to provide you with feedback about it

5

Following the interview, be sure to send a thank you note, mentioning anything you found helpful and/or interesting
