Title:                Communications Intern

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Intern will provide critical support to the Chief of Staff in raising awareness about Women for Women International in the media.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop content including website, newsletter, annual report, videos and other materials
  • Draft/edit press releases, talking points, fact sheets and management of media relations
  • Coordinate with other departments
  • Assist with maintenance of the organization’s contact and membership databases
  • Staying abreast of key developments critical to women’s issues, international relations, development trends, relevant events
  • Supporting special projects related to the organization’s communications strategy
  • Assisting with the development of communications plans and strategy
  • Administrative duties: filing, phone calls/faxes, copying, mail

 

SKILLS:

  • Graduate student or undergraduate with relevant professional experience
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience and interest in communications, international relations, development, women’s issues
  • Professional experience in non-profit and for-profit communications, PR, marketing and development, a plus

Title:                Institutional Advancement Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Institutional Advancement Intern(s) will report directly to the Institutional Advancement staff. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students looking to obtain experience in fund-raising for women’s development programs, including how to identify and research foundations and other prospective donors; to help steward major donor and major donor prospects; will assist to plan and execute special events; will assist with grant research, writing and editing. We have two part-time or one full-time unpaid internship positions available during the summer term. While a full-time commitment is preferred, part-time interns will also be considered.  Academic credit is available for this internship experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifying and researching foundations and other prospective donors
  • Editing and proof-reading of proposals and reports
  • Contributing to writing and editing of other publications
  • Database maintenance
  • Assisting in donor stewardship and communications
  • Assisting in logistics for Women for Women International’s annual gala and other major donor events
  • Administrative duties, e.g., updating donor database records, filing etc.

 

SKILLS:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook Express

POSITION SUMMARY:

Women for Women International’s Marketing and Development Intern will report directly to the Annual Giving Officer and Marketing Database and Analytics Manager. This position is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate individuals interested in pursuing a career in non-profit development, and learning about the day-to-day workings of an international non-profit. The position is unpaid with academic credit available.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with acknowledgement process
  • Assist with updating of marketing reports
  • Assist with data entry associated with direct mail as needed
  • Assist in writing, proofreading and editing of materials for online and print publication
  • Assist in donor cultivation
  • Assist with research to use in supporter communications
  • Update and maintain direct mail hard and soft copy files
  • Research new funding opportunities and conduct additional research into current funders
  • Assist with the preparation of event materials
  • Assist and serve as a representative of the organization at informational events
  • Maintain the integrity of the database

POSITION SUMMARY:

We’re seeking to enhance our online presence, spread brand awareness, and utilize the website as platform for knowledge.  Women for Women International is seeking someone to provide support with online marketing and in-house support of marketing initiatives and efforts as well as creative thinking on how to virally spread the word.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help maintain and update content on the website
  • Assist with updating reporting on performance of online marketing campaigns
  • Assist with research supporting the Marketing and Development department, including online marketing opportunities, social media outlets, and comp set analysis
  • Maintain communication with our online community, including emails, blogs, posting comments, etc;
  • Maintain and assist in audit of website and all live web pages in order to monitor traffic and domains

We’re seeking to capitalize on our Grassroots support to get more people involved, active and engaged! Women for Women International is seeking someone to provide support with online marketing for events and in-house support of events and other fundraisers.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive and respond to questions regarding events or fundraisers
  • Assist in developing and executing the creative content for web site updates, emails and other viral campaigns.
  • Manage other online tools to raise awareness and increase participation

Title:                Sponsorship Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sponsorship Program is a direct, personal, hands-on way for women in the U.S. and over 50 other countries to help women survivors of war. Sponsors are matched with a woman in one of Women for Women International's operating countries. The sponsor provides $27 in monthly financial support that allows a woman to obtain basic necessities for her family — food, clean water, medicine; pay school-related expenses for her children; begin the recovery process by investing in training; or use the funds as seed capital where groups of sponsored women pool their funds to collectively start a cooperative, support a joint project or start a small business. The sponsor and the program participant also exchange letters, where the sponsor is given the opportunity to provide encouragement and support. A portion of the sponsorship funds are also used to provide each woman with skills training, rights awareness education and other services that help her rebuild her life.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assist in Sponsorship Program administration including:

·         Update sponsors’ and sponsored women’s records daily or as needed.

·         Assist in matching process of sponsors with their sisters, including database updates and preparing and mailing correspondence regarding the status of their sisters.

·         Assist in monthly mailing of 3500 letters to sponsors.

·         Assist in processing letters to & from sponsors.

·         Process evaluations and enrollment forms of sponsored women.

·         Assist with research and the development of program materials

·         Provide administrative and database support to Sponsorship Program.

·         Other duties as assigned.           

 

SKILLS:

·         Experience working in an office environment

·         Interest in women’s and/or international issues

·         Experience and/or comfort with word processing, merging letters and databases, using the following applications: Microsoft Word, Excel and Access

Women for Women International's Research and Publications Intern will report directly to the Senior Research and Policy Officer. This internship is an excellent opportunity for graduate students with exceptional research, writing, and editing skills to obtain experience in producing international gender and development publications. This is a part-time (15-20 hrs/wk), unpaid position. Academic credit is available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with gender and development research projects, such as country and issue briefs, reports and position papers.
  • Editing and proofreading organizational materials as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS:

  • Open to graduate students or individuals with prior research, writing and editing experience only.
  • Ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Founded in 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources needed to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies.  WfWI has distributed millions of dollars in aid and micro-credit loans and has provided its multi-faceted core program of direct aid, emotional support, rights and leadership education, job skills training and small business development to thousands of women worldwide.  WfWI works with socially-excluded women survivors of war in eight countries around the world and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. 

As a new and exciting chapter in our history, Women for Women International is building a policy and advocacy initiative to broadcast global, grassroots women’s voices to policy-makers, thought leaders and the media.  The Policy and Advocacy Intern will support this process, reporting to the Policy Analyst.  This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students looking to obtain experience assisting with research, writing and support of a growing department in the environment of the Washington, D.C. nonprofit and policy communities. We have one, unpaid, part-time internship available during the fall/winter terms. Academic credit is available for this internship experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting Policy Analyst with research and analysis such as legislative tracking and review relevant articles, surveys and reports
  • Researching and reporting on various outreach and media opportunities

Title:                 Manual Revisions Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

The GPU Manual Revisions Intern will report to the Deputy Director of Global Programs and the Program Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to obtain additional experience in the organization, maintenance and management of grassroots women’s development programs. This internship will help foster understanding of an international non-profit organization’s programmatic operations.

 

Since our founding in 1993, Women for Women International has provided direct assistance to more than 100,000 women worldwide and micro credit loans to another 50,000+. We are engaged in a process to revise and implement our training curriculum. Consider joining us for this exciting project!

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assist in final editing and/or research as needed of curriculum revision project for rights awareness and life skills curriculum for WfWI program participants

·         Assist in development of pictographic representations of key curriculum messages and concepts and assembling materials as needed for toolkit for trainers

·         Assist in developing and formatting a design template for Women for Women International’s revised training curriculum

·         Assist with preparations as needed for Training of Trainers workshops

·         Other duties as assigned to help support administration of field programs

 

SKILLS:

·         Graphic design and publications skills and experience required

·         Experience or coursework in special education, elementary education, curriculum development and / or adult learning techniques desired

·         Strong organizational, writing, and oral presentation skills

Arlington ArtWorks is seeking volunteers. Arlington ArtWorks is an open study for adults with chronic mental health issues or intellectual disabilities. ArtWorks is open Monday through Friday from 10am-3pm. It is a drop-in setting where individuals can participate in a variety of art mediums. ArtWorks is seeking volunteers or students who can work one to two days per week 10am-2pm. No artistic talent or experience is required. What is required is a willingness to work with a variety of individuals in a dynamic artistic setting.
