Biographical Information:

Dr. Sabatino’s area of specialization is school social work. She is a certified school social work specialist (C-SSWS, NASW) and a licensed independent clinical social worker in Maryland and DC. Her research interests are school mental health, school consultation, and school social work practice with children and their families in regular education and special education. Her professional experience has been in public and private school systems as a direct practitioner, program director, clinical supervisor, and consultant.

She is the author of Consultation theory and practice: A handbook for school social workers published by Oxford University Press. Her current research involves a national evaluation of school social work consultation. She has served on several NASW national school social work task forces, including the development of the Educational Testing Services Praxis II school social work examination, the Standards for Confidentiality for school social workers, and the School Social Work Section, and the School Social Work Specialty Practice Section. In addition, she served on a School Social Work Association of America task force work that developed 1) an online school social work specialization; 2) a national model of school social work practice; and 3) a national evaluation model of school social work practice. She is on the Editorial Board of Children & Schools and the Journal of Child and Adolescent Social Work, and on the Board of Directors for Communities-in-School of the Nation’s Capital (CISNCAP).
