Biographical Information:

Karlynn BrintzenhofeSzoc’s clinical experience is as a medical social worker working with people diagnosed with cancer and AIDS and their family and friends.  Her research interests have been in psychosocial impact of cancer on those diagnosed with the disease, chronic illness, instruments development, and program evaluation.  Dr. BrintzenhofeSzoc teaches research courses in the MSW foundation year, practice evaluation in the MSW advanced year, and research methodology in the Doctoral program, practice classes in the foundation year, and field seminar in both foundation year.  She helped develop the Health Care Specialization and is the instructor for the Integrative Seminar required in this specialization.  She also teaches the Death course.  Dr. BrintzenhofeSzoc is licensed in Maryland with a LCSW-C and she is a certified oncology social worker (OSW-C). 

Dr. BrintzenhofeSzoc is a member of the Board of Director of the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society, is on the Board of the DC Pain Initiative and the Washington Partnership, Acting Chair of the American Cancer Society’s DC Government Relations Policy Committee, and is Past President of the Association of Oncology Social Work.  Dr. BrintzenhofeSzoc is one of the recipients of the 2002 Trish Greene Quality of Life Award, two The Jennifer L. Brager Memorial Award for the Development of New Cancer Research (1995 and 1997) and two The Jennifer L. Brager Memorial Award for Cancer Research (1996 and 1997) from the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. 

In 1993-1994 Dr. BrintzenhofeSzoc was the American Cancer Society Post-Master’s Fellow in Oncology Social Work at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center.
