Areas of Specialty:
Sr. Ann Patrick teaches, researches, lectures, and facilitates workshops and seminars in the areas of Professional Social Work Ethics, Social Justice and Human rights, Social Policy, Supervision, and the religious/spiritual dimension of social work practice.

 

Research Interests:
Her current research interests are in the inter-related areas of social justice, human rights, and social work ethics.

 

Professional Experience:
Dr. Conrad has served on the faculty of the National Catholic School of Social Service in many roles including Dean of the School, Chair of the Master of Social Work Program, Director of Admissions, and Assistant to the Director of Field Instruction.  In addition, she has been Secretary of the University’s Academic Senate as well as Chairperson of the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects and is currently a Fellow of the Catholic University Life Cycle Institute.  She has served on national boards including the Adjudication of Grievance Board of the National Association of Social Workers, Catholic Charities U.S.A. Board of Trustees, and has been Chairperson of the Board of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington.  Currently, she is Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Council on Accreditation of Family and Child Service Agencies, New York.  She has been an Assistant Professor at Marywood University, Scranton, Pa.; a Visiting Professor at Washington Theological Union, at the Catholic University in Santiago, Chile and at Souchow University in Taiwan; was a Visiting Researcher at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown; and teaches in the Social Work Education Program in the Philippines.  In addition, she has taught, lectured, presented research and provided consultation in the United States, Chile, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Europe in the areas of Professional Social Work Ethics, Supervision, Social Justice, Social Policy and the Religious/Spiritual dimension of Social Work Practice; and has conducted empirical studies of the life and ministries of Religious Communities in the United States, Canada, and Europe.  An experienced clinician, she has pursued advanced clinical training at the Washington School of Psychiatry and the Tavistock Institute, London; and has worked with individuals, families, children, and communities in various Catholic Charities agencies as well as in private practice.

Honors and Awards:
Sister Ann Patrick received the Msgr. John O’Grady Award presented by the National Conference of Catholic Charities (currently known as Catholic Charities U.S.A.) for her paper entitled, “The Health Care Policy Pendulum:  An Ethical Perspective”; an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities to participate in the “Justice in Health Care” seminar at Tufts University; and was an invited participant and presenter at the Oxford Round Table at Oxford University, England.

 

Licensure and Certification:

Dr. Conrad is currently a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the District of Columbia and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) in the State of Maryland.
