Biographical Information:

Dr. Daughtery has ten years of practice experience as a licensed clinical social worker providing direct services to for mothers and their children recovering from substance abuse in residential treatment in Washington, D.C., and adolescents in foster care, teen mothers, and reunification of families and children in foster care in Maryland.  Daughtery who is also an adjunct professor at the Howard University School of Social Work, joined the faculty in September 2005 after completing dissertation research on African American female adolescents in foster care in January 2005.

Formal social work practice is actually a second career for Daughtery. Her lifelong interest in social change and social justice led initially to the field of journalism where she worked for two decades --- first as a reporter for The Baltimore Sunday Sun and then as a broadcast news producer for local television stations in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. and a national cable network. As a member of a national media organization, she taught short courses in broadcast journalism at North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina for nearly a decade.

Dr. Daughtery was born in 1954, the year the Supreme Court issued Brown v. Board of Education. She believes there is a relationship between being born that year, being the first member of her family to complete college, her academic journey, and her current pursuits.
