Biographical Information:

Dr. Soniat joined the faculty of the National Catholic School of Social Service in 2005. She is an Associate Professor and Director of the NCSSS Center on Global Aging.  She coordinates the combined micro/macro concentration, and teaches the combined advanced integrative seminar and Clinical Social Work Practice with the Elderly. Prior to joining NCSSS, Dr. Soniat served on the faculties of The George Washington University Medical Center and Howard University School of Social Work.

 

Dr. Soniat has presented at national, international, regional and local conferences. Her research interests include community-based care for vulnerable older adults; minority aging; civic engagement, creativity, and post-retirement productivity; geriatric mental health; minority health disparities and health and social service needs of older women. She has a strong interest in pursuing answers to practice-generated research questions.

 

Dr. Soniat has worked in the fields of social work and gerontology for over thirty years. For over twenty years, her career effectively integrated clinical practice, research, teaching and interdisciplinary field-based education of professional students. Dr. Soniat is a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland and DC. She is Board Certified as a Diplomat in Clinical Social Work.
