Bachelor of Social Work
Undergraduate Social Work majors complete two field internships. In the Junior year, students participate in a 96 hour internship, completing 8 hours of field each week. BSW Seniors complete a two semester, 16 hour per week internship designed to develop the knowledge and skills comprising professional social work practice. Examples of activities at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels include:
Micro-level: crisis intervention, case management, home visiting, assessments, supportive counseling
Mezzo-level: co-leading support groups, psycho-educational groups, or social skills groups, working with a family for discharge planning.
Macro-level: conducting a community needs assessment, writing a grant proposal, testifying at a hearing, organizing the local community around a particular issue.
